Xero vs MYOB in 2026 — and why your practice website still matters

Australian accountants do not need another ledger. They need a site, onboarding and extra bookkeeping hands that respect Xero, MYOB and the ATO calendar.

Pick the ledger your clients already have

Xero won the digital-native SME. MYOB still sits with trades, family companies and clients who have been on it for a decade. QuickBooks is a third lane. A practice that “standardises everyone onto Xero next month” usually loses the client.

Dext and Practice Ignition are the real onboarding

If clients still photograph receipts into the group chat, the bottleneck is not the ledger. Train them into Dext (or the MYOB equivalent) and send engagements through Practice Ignition so billing is not a side quest in EOFY.

The website is how you stop attracting the wrong work

Service pages for BAS, SMSF, payroll and founder bookkeeping filter enquiries. A Gmail form titled “contact us” does not. Hire a writer who can speak ATO without sounding like a brochure, then keep the site on a retainer through June.
