What should a good website portfolio look like?
Live URLs, real photos, a first screen that says who you help, working forms, and mobile that holds up. Mockups without a production site are not a 2026 portfolio.

A good portfolio looks like evidence, not decoration.
In 2026 that means: the visitor can tap a live URL, see the business, and believe you shipped it.
What to put on the page
- Three to six live sites with a one-paragraph constraint (“six pages, HotDoc CTA, launched in 12 days”)
- Real photography — the cafe, the van, the clinic. Stock handshakes are a tell
- Before/after only if both URLs were real
- Your own site as sample zero. It should pass the same mobile and form test
- Roles named. Designed vs built vs both
What to leave out
Lorem ipsum. Every project in the same Webflow skin. Autoplay showreels with no URL. Award logos that do not click through to the work.
If you are hiring, use this as the scorecard: evaluate a designer’s previous work. If you are the designer, this is the brief for your own site.
Tech Aid’s website package at $2,000 will give you six pages and chat if your portfolio URL is still a Linktree. The UGC pack at $1,250 is for social proof, not a portfolio site.

FAQs
What should a good website portfolio look like?
Live sites, not PDFs. Real photos of the work or location. A first screen that names the customer. Working enquiry paths. Mobile that loads. Short notes on the problem and the constraint — not awards.
How many samples?
Three strong, relevant URLs beat twenty templates. Match the industry you want to be hired for.
Should I include password-protected work?
A private walkthrough is fine. A grey rectangle that says “NDA” is not a sample.
Does my own site count?
Yes, and it is the first sample clients open. If your studio site bounces, they will not believe the case studies.
I need a portfolio site built — what does that cost here?
The locked website + AI chat package is $2,000 for up to six pages in 7–14 days. Designers can also hire a developer on escrow for a custom build.
